John Gacys Day Parade

So, I had this idea… Soundcloud will explain:

So, I was walking home from work yesterday and got this idea. The Thanksgiving 3-Pack: 3 new songs with a holiday theme, jam-packed with a bunch of stupid fucking samples stuffed into the play length of a 7″ record… total fail. Either way, I think I hate how this album turned out, but what can I say, written, recorded and mixed down all withing a 30 hour period (not to mention I was sleeping, clean the apartment and cooking a Thanksgiving meal in that time as well.) I guess it’s not all that bad. Happy Thanksgiving, maybe someone will enjoy this.

Here’s some lyrics:

Everywhere I Go I Love You
You will never come
To celebrate your history
Culture stomped out
Assimilate to Christianity
Lined up in a parade
Thanking Gods  for mistakes you made
Commercializing what put your dreams in early graves
We walk the streets today to hide dark history
We’re so good at genocide, nothing will ever change
Gather all, and celebrate their fall
Our crooked culture shocked a world that hates us all
Love can’t save us, no, love can’t save us
Love can’t save us now

We look so stubborn
Waving banners on the TV
Sponsored by companies
Who’s interests exploit our needs
We should have never, forgotten our history
Cultures have fallen before when people succumb to concede
We think we’ll never separate
We’re too good to lose
What good is a man with a culture?
The answer is, he’s better than you

Baby Jesus Brand Cigarettes
I am thankful for:
The Guidance of TV
Product labels that falsely lead
People dying in the streets
Unregulated marketing
The illusion of safety
Inflated prices on gasoline
Profiteering from incurable disease
Just cut the fucking bird

I swear I do other things. Maybe painting coming soon. Let me get some good photos together. Here’s a link… Later yo.

The 6th Day

Ahhh… finally the end of my 6 day stretch at work. Also, the title of the Arnold movie that Dalton was trying to think of the other day (at least, I think it is) …anyway… tomorrow is all about website revisions for the Boydell sites, mainly Bouzouki. We’ll see how all of that goes… I’m going to have to do quite a bit of digging to try and find where some of that old stuff is hiding. However, tonight is mine, and I’m just gonna kick back and enjoy a 6 pack of Hop Notch. I had some spicy rice crackers that sort of spoiled my pallet, but I can still taste that this beer is not nearly as bitter as I had originally hoped it would be. It’s still pretty good nonetheless.

Sandy Preparations

So, we’ll see how this hurricane Sandy plays out the next couple days… if we lose power it could make for a very lucrative Sketchbook Friday! As far as work goes, I’m going to be in the middle of 6 day stretch all the way through the storm, so hopefully I’ll get a little bit of time in between to make these Boydell site update, and get some fun photos posted to this lame-o blog and make it seem a little more like a website. Anyway… off to work.

…and it goes a little something like this, hit it!

Tomorrow is going to be the first in a number of up and coming Sketchbook Fridays… hopefully I’ll be able to stick to the whole blogging thing again. I’ll be having to keep up on a multitude of emails at work, so hopefully I’ll be able to use this to keep up on my typing skills. Here’s a random ideas (I’m sure I;ve written it before somewhere, but now it’s official.)

Fortune Cookies

So, a couple of months ago I came up with an idea to make fortune cookies with Dr. Dre quotes as fortunes. The only one I could think of… er, actually the best one I could think of was “If you dis Dre, you dis yourself.” Now, I’m pretty sure that is actually a Snoop Dogg quote, or someone else… however, it fits perfectly as a fortune cookie. Then the quote led me to another great idea…

Propaganda Posters

So, here’s a brief rundown of the idea. I’m going to do these all minimal color like a screen printed poster, but probably assemble the final piece a four-color print. Anyway, …and it goes a little something like this, hit it! The original phrase from the fortune cookies is the main idea behind the posters. Imagine, a poster next to the time clock at work… there’s a picture of a stressed out guy making a b-line for the time clock, and a caricature of Dre behind him. The copy reads: “Punching in late, is like calling Dr. Dre a bitch… you’re only dissing yourself!” …another one above a stove might go a little something like (this, hit it!)… a picture of a stressed out cook holding a burnt steak with a bunch of tickets piling up, and the Dr. Dre caricature (again.) Copy: “Burning dinner is like calling Dr. Dre a buster… you’re only dissing yourself.” Take it in… the posters will be available after I finish the first shirt design.

That’s all for now kids… stay tuned for tomorrow.

The Shape of Dreams to Come

Well, I know it’s been a while (as always) but I thought I’d just hop right back into it like nothing happened and explain a little bit about what I’ve been working on without actually showing anything. Damn, that was quite the run-on sentence. Anyway friends, the name of the game has been sketching as of late, however, there’s really a lot more to it than that. Here’s a non-look at what’s in the works:

Remedy667 is Coming Back

The dead will once again light your internets, with a fresh new design based on all the prior designs mashed together. Some key features of the site will be click-n-print gigposters, free fonts & design resources, free wallpapers and other computer lameness, and even music. Now we’re talking… in addition to more free stuff than most people care to shake things, I’m also planning on having a small store somewhere in there. To sell all of these weird t-shirt ideas I’ve been cooking up.

Other Than That

I’ve just been working like crazy, got a promotion… transitioned into full-time. Some new revisions to old Boydell sites should be coming soon as well. Then the ever popular Postcard Exchange, and hopefully some new artwork is soon to come followed by design, beer & media reviews… all that shit. Anyway, enough talking here’s some sketchbook fun.

Dropping Science Up Your Flask

Beginning the infantile stages of the reworking of… It’s pretty much been just an old non-updated blog since the last time it got hacked. It’s gonna be a quick little single page portfolio for now, then I’ll update the old blog (this website) and then start to get these sites together. Enough about that shit though… Let’s talk about recent work, because that’s always fun, and there’s always lots of fun to talk about… er, work I mean.

Did a couple album covers for the new youtube16 series of videos produced by Praverb the Wyse (newest single Devize feat. Praverb – Temporary Home). I was pretty excited about this because it was a simplistic text based project, and I got to throw a logo on it as the art credit. Hello new website traffic… look out for more from this project to come.

Did a nice flyer illustration for a new gorilla marketing campaign idea. The part about this that made it especially fun was that this is my old band from college. It’s nice to see them still making music and getting respect that they deserve with each new release. The image depicts a scene from a couple songs on their upcoming album that can be found here… but enough talk, let’s get to the visuals.
…and with that, I’m giving this whole blogging thing a rest for a bit. Hope you enjoyed it, I’m planning on switching up the new blog into something a little more random… so look forward to that.

Potato Salad (Take 1)

So what is in my Potato Salad (just in case it’s actually good)…

  1. 6 small Russet Potatoes (conventional, PLU#4072)
  2. 3 Hardboiled Eggs (diced)
  3. 3 Kosher Dill Spears (diced)
  4. 1/4 Cup Sweet Onion (diced, PLU#4166)
  5. 4 Heaping Spoonfuls (1 cup?) of Light Mayonaise
  6. 1 Heaping Spoonful (1/2 Cup?) of Sour Cream
  7. Spices (as needed, in order of amount) Salt, Bacon Salt, Dill Weed, Pepper, Cayenne Pepper

DIRECTIONS (in short)

Boil Potatoes for 20 minutes, remove, cool, cut into cubes. Boil Eggs for 10 minutes, dice. Add all ingredients to potatoes and stir until the desired consistency is achieved.

The AWOL. ep.

So, I’ve got this idea to do another EP for (we’ll see how long it actually stays up because,) I’m going to do all covers… but at the same time it’s sort of a concept album. It’s gonna be a 4 song EP, with the possibility of a 5th song recorded “hidden track” style at the end of the 4th track. Anyway, here’s the concept (and the cover so I don’t forget)…

So, the concept is extremely random. I’ve been going through random files on my computer… blah blah found some old songs, blah, saw one of the owl stickers, Lorem Ipsum Dolar, wanted to spell “OWL” with the illustration in the middle… oh, so that’s the cover story, and I drew that picture and came up with a title. So, now there’s the matter of the tracklist (BTW I was listening to the Melvins the whole time I came up with this.) That factors into the Lysol EP, where they covered the Alice Cooper song that I’ve always wanted to do (cover) since way, way back. So I came up with this concept…  4 songs from back in the day that relate to people that co-inside with letters (somewhat randomly) in the word AWOL (pronounced Ah-wool.) So here goes…

  1. A – The Ballad of Dwight Fry – the A is for my friend Aaron (it get’s more random as we go) but I’ve always really wanted to do a cover of this song, and we used to listen to it all the time when we were in high school. It’s by Alice Cooper (covered by the Melvins BTW,) love that bleeding guitar outro.
  2. W – Credit in the Straight World – the W is for Marci (which actually starts with M, but upside down it’s a W) so… (don’t worry, it get’s more random) She used to listen to Hole and Pearl Jam a lot back in the day. There’s no way I’m going to attempt a Pearl Jam song… this should be tricky enough as it is.
  3. O – Window Shop for Love – or – Let’s Go Away – the O is for Jon, his name has 3 letters… O is the middle one (and if that’s not random enough… it gets even more.) He had a CD copy of Is This Real? by the Wipers back in the day, he made me a tape, I listened to it religiously, and probably covered the whole album on demo cassettes while I was learning guitar back in high school.
  4. L – The New America – the L is for Don (ironic) he used to have a shirt (in the 90’s people wore work shirts with other people’s names (nametags?) on them) with the name “L” embroidered on it. We played a show once with this band, Spider Virus, and they were amazing. He picked up a copy of their CD and we listened to it in his car a lot… so it fits, and also it’s a good song to leave with.

Now as far as hidden tracks go, it comes down to 2… 1.) I Like Fucking, by B.C.Ragtime (which it will probably end up being) and 2.) Zero the Hero by Black Sabbath which I really want to do because (for one) I can relate that song to both Don and Aaron, so it sort of brings the whole EP together, and (for two) I’ve always wanted to cover that song (or Sweet Leaf) by Black Sabbath.

Spider Virus cover Zero the Hero immediately after The New America, so I think it might be a no go. I Like Fucking it is(or is it, you’ll just have to wait and see my mood at the time!) Anyway, this time wasn’t logo-rama, but I’m still waiting to hear back from the Russell, so… until next time kiddies.

Goin Out West (Long Island)

So, I recently got back from a weekend trip to Long Island, and came back with a couple new ideas… both as ridiculous as random.

  1. Start making my own ketchup (catsup… cat-syrup?) …which I found a bunch of recipes online, and I’m sick of ketchup tasting like it does. So maybe it won’t be ketchup at all. Either way, I just want to create a recipe to put up on the site, and then have a label that people can download and print to put on the jar. I started drawing label ideas, but I haven’t scanned anything yet.
  2. Re-record a new version of “I Like Fucking” (the B.C.Ragtime song, not the Bikini Kill one), only as a punk rock song instead of whatever we did with it the first time. So, with that idea… I sketched out this idea for a cover (which looks like this.)

…and now for a little Goin’ Out West. This is going to be a weekly online comic that my friend Matt (from work, not Turdman) and I are putting together. The idea comes from this sitcom idea we came up with, which I’ll explain later once we get a special Tumblr page or something set up for it. So, here’s the first one:

You can click on it to make it bigger… but hopefully this will actually work out for a while because it’s not just me starting some random idea. I’ll have more people to motivate me into making it. Who knows… maybe it’ll end up in the weekly paper or something after we get a little better at it. Anyway, that’s all for now… join us next time for EXTREME LOGONESS!
