Ahhh… finally the end of my 6 day stretch at work. Also, the title of the Arnold movie that Dalton was trying to think of the other day (at least, I think it is) …anyway… tomorrow is all about website revisions for the Boydell sites, mainly Bouzouki. We’ll see how all of that goes… I’m going to have to do quite a bit of digging to try and find where some of that old stuff is hiding. However, tonight is mine, and I’m just gonna kick back and enjoy a 6 pack of Hop Notch. I had some spicy rice crackers that sort of spoiled my pallet, but I can still taste that this beer is not nearly as bitter as I had originally hoped it would be. It’s still pretty good nonetheless.
So, we’ll see how this hurricane Sandy plays out the next couple days… if we lose power it could make for a very lucrative Sketchbook Friday! As far as work goes, I’m going to be in the middle of 6 day stretch all the way through the storm, so hopefully I’ll get a little bit of time in between to make these Boydell site update, and get some fun photos posted to this lame-o blog and make it seem a little more like a website. Anyway… off to work.
Well, I know it’s been a while (as always) but I thought I’d just hop right back into it like nothing happened and explain a little bit about what I’ve been working on without actually showing anything. Damn, that was quite the run-on sentence. Anyway friends, the name of the game has been sketching as of late, however, there’s really a lot more to it than that. Here’s a non-look at what’s in the works:
Remedy667 is Coming Back
The dead will once again light your internets, with a fresh new design based on all the prior designs mashed together. Some key features of the site will be click-n-print gigposters, free fonts & design resources, free wallpapers and other computer lameness, and even music. Now we’re talking… in addition to more free stuff than most people care to shake things, I’m also planning on having a small store somewhere in there. To sell all of these weird t-shirt ideas I’ve been cooking up.
Other Than That
I’ve just been working like crazy, got a promotion… transitioned into full-time. Some new revisions to old Boydell sites should be coming soon as well. Then the ever popular Postcard Exchange, and hopefully some new artwork is soon to come followed by design, beer & media reviews… all that shit. Anyway, enough talking here’s some sketchbook fun.
…because it has taken me so long to finally decide and update this blog (as it became too hard to manage since nothing seemed to work anymore.) Anyway, I couldn’t find a way to export or update the old blog from version 2.5 because it was created before those features were included… blah, blah, blah… I’m an Idiot, I need to go back to school. Anyway, here we go… watching The Future, and ready to start an idea that I’ve had for a long time (but like everything else, never got around to finishing… errr, starting?) So, here’s to new beginnings and recalculating happiness.
So… it’s been about a year since I’ve written in this blog…
– AND –
nickpolifroni.com has been hacked… so now it’s going to be strictly portfolio. remedy667.com is going to be all font related, because I have no idea how to integrate that into my own design portfolio. Plus, it might get me some feedback on stuff. The main reason that I say shit is gonna hit the fan is because, I’ve gotta update WordPress on this site… I can’t even upload images anymore. I’m probably going to have to make the template a lot more modern as well and integrate it with the other sites (I’d post pictures of the idea, but I can’t until I update.) Anyway, it’s way past time to go to bed… I’ll try to import any past blogs I have in other places and this will become my central blog (again) …just like old times.
All through high school people told me to check out this band. Back then that was a lot easier said then done, it took me until the creation of Napster before I ever heard the sweet sounds of Jodie Fosters Army. This is probably my favorite JFA of the EPs, it just kicks right in with its title track and keeps the same energy throughout (Perhaps with the exception of the Peanuts cover). Either way, this is a classic for fans of early skate-punk and other classic California acts like Stalag 13 and Black Flag.
- Mad Garden
- Rushing Bull
- Charlie Brown
- I Want
I don’t really consider myself to be a fan of Electro, but I’ve always been a loyal fan of punk rock. The first time I heard this was a demo version of the first track, The War at Home, on Myspace a couple years ago. At the time I liked it because I was a Leftover Crack fan, and the track had Stza on it. I’d never really heard the rest of the album until pretty recently though, and I must say… this shit is quality. A lot of the singalong chorus parts really remind me of Anti-Flag, while the overall sound is reminiscent of Atari Teenage Riot or the Refused.
- The War At Home
- Opressing You
- Crooked Lies (Make Baby Jesus Cry)
- For Blood, Under God
- No Compromises
- Nazi White Trash
- Goodbye, Goodnight
As I always say… it’s been a while since I updated my blog. Yeah, and that’s not fucking retard. Anyway… here’s some new shit… Coats & Corpses is live, check it out if you haven’t already it’s “interesting” to say the least. I know I’m always talking shit about music so you might as well listen to some of mine and make fun of me. It’s got free downloads as well, and just in case you didn’t know… I’m not in every band, but I do know people who were.
Yeah, so this is totally not news. This band hasn’t existed for at least 2 or 3 years, but I just ran across it today at work. Decided to put it up on Coats & Corpses. Just click the link on the right.
So I was in a slump for a minute, and I thought I had forgotten how to draw. (Which sucks, because I actually have to do it very often.) Then today I decided to do up a couple of sketches available on flickr…
…and also here apparently. I will now be filtering all images through flickr because this WordPress site has a back end that is fucked and dying. Meaning that I can no longer upload pictures to it (Insert sad frown face.)
That’s right it’s back, and in full force. Check that shit, yo!
Rolling out the 30th Anniversary for a Detroit favorite they’ve got me doing some lightboxes and billboards. Presumably a new menu design as well, but stay tuned for all of that shit. However, it’s neighbor…
Loco’s Tex-Mex Grille
…had an awesome Cinco de Mayo this year. Did the posters… here’s a little bit of the process…
…and the final.
Anyway, there’s always more, but that’s all I feel like sharing right now. Check out those few websites, and my flickr page. Also, look for more lies from a dead acrobat in the near future.
Well, it’s been a hectic few months… sooo… Here’s some stuff I’ve been working on recently…
Well, phase one has begun on doDetroit TV. Check it out at www.dodetroit.com/tv/. We’re still looking for music videos from bands, short films by local filmakers, commercials, and other places that would like to be featured. Check out the contact page if you would like to be featured, or if you would like to run the DVD in your business starting in the next month or so.
The Hadituptoheres Record Release Show
March 19th at the Old Miami. I designed the poster for this one, and they’ll be available at the show. Probably with the purchase of a record, but I’m not sure exactly how the band is handling that.
I’ll have a few additional ones for purchase at $3 each. If there are any left for the People’s Arts Festival, I’ll be giving them out as change. Yes, I do have plans of doing the festival this year… but we’ll see how that plays out as August 28 & 29 approach.
Ded Dave Show
I’ve got some paintings currently hanging up on set, you should be able to see them in an upcoming episode. Also, the St. Paddy’s Day Parade this year will feature the Ded Dave Show, and I’m going to try to make it out for that walk.
Detroit Dance N Graff 2010
I’m actually pretty pleased with how this logo turned out. It’s damn near impossible to find Graffiti fonts that aren’t total crap, so I opted for no fonts. Amazingly, I was actually able to come up with something. I’ll post an image of it later. I’ll be working on the website and flyer for that one later tonight.
I’ll do an image posting later tonight (if I have time)…
